So I was hanging out with my male bearded dragon the other day, watching Pirates of the Caribbean, when I started rubbing under his chin. I noticed something I had never noticed before. He had thin little bones in his jowls (his chubby chin area). I assume this is normal, because animals don't just sprout bones out of no-where, but does anyone know what the purpose of these bones are? I was just curious and thought someone might know what they are for because they don't seem to serve much of a purpose (they are definitely not part of his jaw, so I don't see how they would aid in eating).

That is what they use to enlarge their beard area when threatened or mating. Its normal.. without it they never would have been common named bearded Dragons
