No, it is not good unless you are feeding it to a female who has just laid eggs, most people wouldn't recommend that though, only ron tremper recommends it, and i think maybe some other breeders.

It is usually only recommended for female leos that have just laid eggs. It helps to put on some weight that they tend to lose during that time. However, many breeders do recommend it. Some don't, as I'm sure some on this site may do, but I have been recommended feeding them to female leos by people who have bred leos for over 40 years. The only warning was to never make it a staple diet, nor should they ever be fed to juveniles. But with the wide range of opinions out there, it is up to you.

Feeding pinkies is an old and now thought to be outdated practice. It was believed that the extra fat in the pinkies would help leos to gain weight, but further research has shown that leos' digestive systems are built to digest insects and not mamillian fats found in pinkies so they can actually do more harm than good. Well gutloaded insects are the way to go for a healthy weight gain in leos.

Well like I said, it is still debated. Many breeders sway on both sides of the issue. To say it has been definitely shown through research to actually be unhealthy for breeding females will require citation from the source itself. I have read conflicting reports on the matter. |

There are a lot of Tubes on YouTube... I like to think of the title as more of a passing comment about several members than anything else. I've seen 4 leos in a 20g, on sand fighting and there is a load of comments saying 'isn't that cute'. Some of them are so beyond help they should be shot. I am going to say though that there is nothing that a leo gains from eating a pinkie that they cannot gain by making an exemplary effort of feeding them the rest of the year round, a proper diet of well gutloaded and dusted feeders. Breeders might want to feed them but if they fed their leos well enough the whole year round they would have no problems getting a full breeding season out of every single female without the risk of pinkies.
