Post subject: Age of a new python? Posted: May 09, 2008 - 01:03 PM
My girlfriend and I are interested in getting a ball python. Theres some local hole in the wall shops that sell captive bred/raised snakes from a reputable breeder from the area. My main concern is the age of the snakes. I assume snakes are like any other animal where after awhile they get personality traits that aren't exactly reversible. We very much want a snake thats personable and doesn't mind being handled so I figured we'd want to get a snake as young as possible.
What I'm getting at is around what age should we look for when getting a snake? The pet shop's snakes are over a year old; I worry that this may be to old.
Snakes are nothing like dogs. Any ball python i have seen with an attitude is from being miss treated.
a year old is nothing. thats still a baby. That would be a perfect age in my opinion for your first snake as long as it is in good health. Hatchlings tend to be more testy than adults i figure due to curiosity.
