Hey so I recently got a really nice used cage unit similar to what they have in pet stores. Lets just put it this way, these cages were in storage for 10 years. So they were disgusting. There was adhesive all over the back of the cage from old thermostats and humidistats and whatever else this guy put on them that I had to get off. I used this stuff called Goof-Off 2 to help get the adhesive off. With some hard work, it finally came off. Problem is, though the Goof-Off was waterbased, I am worried that the fumes or excess will hurt my animals. After getting the adhesive off, I went over the whole enclosure with Healthy Habitat (I swear that stuff is great), but how long do you guys think I should let the cages air out before putting my animals in them after using those chemicals? Should 24 hours work, or do you think I should wait longer than that. After the air-out period, I plan to go over it with Healthy Habitat again to ensure theres no excess on there.
Thanks for the advice, and I promise to post pictures of the new enclosure later! |

I am pretty sure that stuff is horrible to use in an enclosure. I use it sometimes at work to get off calking thats suppose to last 50 years.. and makes paint disappear in a matter of seconds.. I don't know what it has in it off hand could you possibly list out what it is made of and i can look some of the chems in it up for you and help a little more.

It says it is water-based... so thats why I thought it wouldn't be as bad. The grime on this unit was so bad though, I feel the grime would have been worse for the animals than using this to take it off.
