Can you use bromeliads with AFT's ? Can you use small palm trees? Can you have a small "pond" in thier cage? Can you use leaf litter? Can you use earth worms in the soil to keep it clean? I don't really want to do this, but can you house them with anoles? Can you use pill bugs to keep it clean? Can you use a coir/orchid bark/dirt/sand substrate? Are there any orchids you can use with them? Are there any flowers you can use with them? Can a fat tail live a comfortable life in a 20 gallon cage?

To answer the OP, fat tails are not cresties - what you are describing is a naturalistic crestie tank. Not a good idea with AFTs; a more sterile, artificial set up is advised and certainly no ponds

Hi DinoDrawer, I agree with unrealjill, I have had my AFT Bud for close to 12 years. Afts tend to be a bit clumpsy when hunting and once they grab onto something they tend not to want to let it go wether it is crickets or substrate or anything else in their enviroment. Bud has a very simple cage setup. He has a cave hide(dry), a moist hide for aid in shedding and humidity. A small shallow water dish as afts tend to drown in large ones. An undertank heat pad and a small heat light in the moonlight color. And he is happy, healthy and quite active. I would not put your aft with any other species, especially small ones like anoles or they will be food items for it. I have seen afts eat other small geckos no problem. Hope this helps

I am not rally worried about impaction, if the animal has the right humidity and supplementation they should be able to pass just about anything. I didn't really want to put them with anoles, i was just curious. Why is a sterylie, artificial setup better? Have you had problems with naturalistic terrariums before? And I think cresties and aft's have basically the same requirements, so that is probably why it sounds that way.

What it a pond was about half an inch deep? i would be kinda hard to drown in that, right?

I just got a AFT but from what Ive read and what I know from a leos I would never use any loose substrate... I have my girls in ceramic tiles... I would never want to risk having my little friends get sick because of something I could prevent... as for a pond a baby can drown in an inch of water... also something you can prevent... I think that you should look into getting some books on your critter or really take into some consideration what people on this site have to say for the most part they know what theyre talking about... good luck smile.gif
