I was looking around at jungle carpets and decided I must have one. But I have a couple questions first.
How long would a baby be able to live in a 20L aquarium? And this is a list of things I made up that I need to have for him/her. So if you guys could go over it and let me know if its right, that'd be great. -20L with screen top...for starting. will get a boaphile cage when he/she gets bigger -heat lamp with 50watt heat emitter, along with a UTH hooked up to a thermostat to control heat. -digital thermometer with probe -water dish -2 hides -temperature gradient from 90* on the hot side to low 80s on the cool side -humidity around 50-60%? How does all of that sound? and sorry for the really long post -------------------- 0.1.1 Leopard Geckos 0.1 Ball Python 1.0 Green Iguana 1.3 Cats 0.1 Dogs 0.3 Mice

(Frostyleo) I was looking around at jungle carpets and decided I must have one.
Of course you did!! Everyone should have at least one Carpet Python!
Your list is great, be sure to pick up some branches/vines/leafy stick on plants. They A) like to climb/perch and it will provide cover and safety for a young snake. I should think you could go well over a year in a 20 long, my 9 month old IJ is still in a 10 gallon tank, they like the tight quarters until they get biggish. She will be getting a Boaphile in a little bit, I'll order it for her soon. I put my 4 footer in his Boaphile when he was about 10 or so months old and he was fine. You just have to make sure the space isn't too open, they do need that security. Oh, just be sure to get a locking lid, locks/clamps or something to secure that screen top! You may find a piece of cut plexiglass will help hold humidity, I had some cut and it works really well.
Here is a fantastic care sheet for Carpets. You really can't go wrong with one! -------------------- -- Your nightmare is breathing, this is Dominion Day. --

My jungle male is an 06 and is a touch over 4ft long. He is in a 55 but he spends most of his time perched and he could still fit in a 20L. I f you already have a 20 you could use it and save for a permanent home. If you don't already have a 20 I would buy a 40g or larger and a JCP should be set for life. Of course I thnk the boaphiles are better but it is more money than I am willing to spend. I have 6 snakes but my JCP is my favotite and is one of the easiest to care for. Baby carpets tend to be nippy mine at a year and a half strikes at me about every other time I am handling but has bever bit me. IJ's have a reputation of being a little mellower but Clem could probably speak about that first hand.

It depends on the individual snake as far as nippiness goes. Ira was not bad at all but Peggy Sue was a hellion (she is much better now). I don't know if one is worse than the other, IJ's or Jungles, I think any baby can be nippy until it grows a bit and gets used to handling. I've read where some never bite and some never stop but think the 'average' will tag you a few times and then settle in very nicely.

they are my favorite of the pythons, the only thing is that they are very squirmy and bite a lot when they're young. they also eat a lot and smell kind of bad sometimes, mainly because they defecate so much from eating all that food.
