i've been stuck in something called nickserv for awhile and can't figure out how to get out.

Sounds like the nickname your trying to use has been registered by either you or someone else.
If you registered the nickname, than you need to give nickserv your password by typing /ns id <password> (without the <>) If you did not register that nick, than you need to use a different nickname.
