Hey, sorry I haven't been on lately, been busy with school and my new leopard gecko and junk so yeah, I've decided to buy ziggy a T-Rex active UV basking bulb, I heard they're good quality, any idea on what watt I should get? my tank is 20'' high and the basking spot is about 12'' tall so should I get a 100 watt or a 160 watt flood? I'm thinking 160, because I have a 75 and a 150 on right now in my hot end which is the half where his basking items are...sound good?

I just bought a MVB and i have found that they do produce quite a lot of heat, so you may want to just go with the 100 watt, and if it doesnt work, you can probably return it for a higher wattage one.
CheriS
20 high, but what is the Length and width?
Ed_r
An 8" gap a 100 will be fine any more will overheat them. I bought them and Am so far dis appointed with them, Not for their UVB output but their longevity. All 3 of my Zoomed Powersuns lasted only 3 month even with proper installation and on a secure mount, they all burned out 1 day apart from each other.

What happens is the internal ballasts is not strong enough to handle the extreme heat the bulb puts out, so the ballast is what actually fails not the rest of the bulb.

But i noticed a HUGE difference in my beardies whil i was using them.

Reptileuv.com is now supposed to have the best MV bulbs on the market, these are the imfamouse Westron bulbs that pretty much inialate any other bulb on the market.
CheriS
LOL ed, I have a whole case here of PowerSuns that died within 3-5 months and need to return them

Thats why we changed over to the MegaRays and Active UV Heats (same company makes them. The new MegaRays have stronger internal ballast and they have the 60 watt external available and will have the 100 watt external out soon. We have several of those too and so far I love 'em

From what i was told by westron is that they were making the t-rex bulbs, but now they are making a new bulb. I guess the only place its available is through Bob at reptileuv.com. unless you know of a better source wink.gif
CheriS
Westron makes Active UV heat for T-Rex and Wild Inside(terrible customer service and filling orders)

Bob Mac worked with them on the MegaRay and they are producting it for him which he has on the reptileuv site, we just heard that the 100 watt will be out soon in the external ballast
Ed_r
Sounds like we're on the same page then wink.gif
CheriS
LOL yeah, I keep forgetting that MegaRay is ReptileUV.com

Ok, so if I have a 65 gallon you guys think 100watt MVB would be best?

I want to get a pair of MVBs when I have some money, I'm trying to find out which are the best to go with, and I'm leaning towards the MegaRays.

Oh man, now i am wishing i had not bought both of my powersuns sad.gif . It seems like they will have been a waste of money. I guess when they burn out I will buy the 2 megaray's.
CheriS
I have some powersuns that are still going strong on close to 2 years, they are more sensitive to power surges in you home and that can burn them out fast. Just save your receipt.... replacement is one thing that the company who makes them is very good at to customers.

Kephy, Email Bobmac form his site or call him, go over your set up with him an he will advise you what is best for you ad the dragon. He has done hundreds of test on many setups, sizes and distances with them.
kephy
Will do, thanks. biggrin.gif

We bought the Megaray, and Bob was great. I told him the setup, and he told me what to buy. It's been great so far....We also have a t-rex, and we are going to have to return it, because it keeps shutting off, for reasons unknown. It does it every couple of days, it'll shut off, and then come back on in a couple of days.
CheriS
thats the problem ballast in so many of these MV lights and one ot the things Bob worked on with Westron to improve.
Janice
We only bought the T-Rex bulb, so we would have a good UV until we got our Megaray in. But we will end up taking it back, they are definately cheap.
kephy
I'm really, really close to buying a megaray for Domo. Just one for now because Ocho is brumating, and it'll give me some time to wait for more $$$ to come in.

What I'm wondering, though, is if I should wait. You see, one of the details he uses to customize the bulb is ambient climate. I live in Texas right now, but there's a good chance I'll be moving to Colorado mid march, big change in climate. I'm wondering if it would be bad to have the bulb customized to one climate, and then move to another. :?
CheriS
Is your home temp controled? IF it is, I donot think it would really matter.
kephy
See, I don't know if it will be in CO.
