Hi everyone...

I've recently been given a 40gal (3ft) aquarium, drift wood and fake plants. I don't want fish but I am gunna build a top for it so that I can turn it into a viv for a corn snake.

I just have 2 questions at the moment;

1 - I've read that baby corns can get stressed if they are in a viv which is 2 big. I don't have the spare cash to buy a smaller viv, so i was thinking of 2 solutions;
A - Divide the tank in 2 and just have the snake in 1 portion for the moment (if so the problem is that the tank has a bow front so it migth be hard to do this... any surgestions? or
B-i could use a large shoebox sized tupperware box and place it inside the viv until the snake is old enough to come out?

The only other prob with thease is heating.... if I have the heat mat under 1 side of the tank and the tank is divided i am concerned that the snake will get to hot or to cold.... on the other hand if i put a box in the viv... even if in the middle will the give enough of a temp change inside the box for the snake to be happy?

2 - what exactly do i need to heat the tank? currently it already has 2 tube bulbs for light.... so do i just need a heat mat to go under it? or do i also need a heat bulb and heat rock as well?

thanks for the help

as long as you can get the floor temps to about 90 you can use whatever you want to heat with.
also ive never believed that an animal can get stressed from being in too large of an enclosure. if that were true then how on earth do these animals exsist in the wild?
just use a full sized enclosure and put in as many hiding spots as you can. they get stressed from wide open spaces, not having alot of room.
