Full Version: Corn snake suddenly aggressive!

I've had my snow corn for 4 years or so now and he's always been really docile, no problems at all. However, in the past month he has become aggressive. It started with him not eating (for maybe the 3rd time since I got him). When I put him back in his tank from the one I feed him in, he struck at me through the glass several times. I figured maybe he was going to be shedding, so I let him be for a couple days and sure enough he shed. I fed him a day or so after and left him be to digest like a usually do for a couple days. I just took him out to handle him and he was getting into strike pose, but I still managed to grab him out. He was squirming and fighting me like crazy! He's never been like that before. He wouldn't calm down at all either. Any clue what's going on? It's summer here if that helps and (20-26 celcius most days). I have changed his substrate from carpet to aspen, but its been probably 3 months since I did that. I'd really appreciate any input.

If it doesn't seem like his health is changing then I wouldnt worry about it. Do you handle him often? Maybe he just wanted to find out what human tasted like? Beats me.

I usually handle him about 1-2 times a week. I haven't changed that factor at all.

We hold our baby corn for 5 minutes every day except for his feeding day...but even then he's so docile that my fiance could probably hand feed him. He's probably an 8 month old hatchling, but has never tried to bite me or my fiance, and we've only had him for maybe a month now^^; Try holding him with gloves on at first if your afraid of getting bitten...then slowly transition to holding him bare handed once he's more calm...it might help if you handle him more...he's probably just scared.^^

I just find it weird that he's suddenly changed. He's NEVER been like this, even before I got him (I worked at the petstore he was at and was the only one who ever handle them except when they were fed, and I had only been doing that for a couple weeks).

You may find that he will be back to his usual self in a few days. He may just be in a stroppy mood. Snakes, like all animals have periods just like us when they feel down in the dumps. It could just be one of those periods.
I wouldnt worry too much at the mo, just keep doing what you are already doing and Im sure he will snap out of it in no time.
