I have had my corn snake for about 10 days, now. I was told at the pet store to feed her 1 pinkie every 7 days, but I had read that you should feed them 2 pinkies, every 3 days or so.
She's about 8 inches long, at the moment and had no problems eatting the first pinkie. What I'm wondering is should I feed her 1 pinkie every 3 days or just stay with the 1 every 7 days? She seems to keep it in her stomach for about 48 hours or so. After that, the bump is gone.
Also, the temperature of the aquarium should be 80-85ish on the heated side for digestion, right? I keep the cooled side around 76, lately. Thanks for the help:)

Here's a pic of her right after she ate for the first time...

You can feed her 1 pinkie twice a week (ex: wednesday and sunday) or just one pinkie a week. It will grow faster if you feed twice weekly at least until it is big enough to eat fuzzies. It does not hurt to feed once a week. It is up to you.

Thanks for the help:) I fed her on Thursday, so I'll see if she'll eat on Monday.

She would do very well eating one pinky every 6 or 7 days. There is no need to stuff her like a sausage every few days, she is going to get as big as her genetics dictate as long as she is fed on a regular schedule. One prey item about the same size as her girth once a week will keep her healthy and growing at a good rate.

Hrm..I'll watch her and see if she starts acting hungry. Usually around that 6th day, she's "pacing" her cage, looking for food.

I've stated my feelings on this numerous times, but what's once more.

Personally, I do not believe that a single pinky every 6-7 days is what's best for a hatchling cornsnake. Corns normally have a pinky digested in 72 hours, and I see no reason to wait 7 days to feed them.

I personally feed all my holdback hatchlings every 3-4 days until they get to fuzzies, and then begin to scale the feedings back.

It depends on how quickly you notice the lump disappearing. I know when my snake was a hatchling, he would still have a bit of a lump after 72 hours with a pinkie so Calas's thinking wouldn't work for him. Every snake is different, If you're uncomfortable with all this back and forth...do every 5 days. Its right in the middle and your snake is going to be fine.

She didn't have a visible lump at all by Saturday and I fed her on Thursday night. I held her, just now, and she obviously has gotten rid of it. I think I'll try every 4 days and see how she does. She might be fixing to shed, though. I got to looking at her eyes and they look hazy. I can hardly see her pupils. Didn't notice it till just now. This will be her first shed, since I've had her.
