My corn is about one year old about 16-18 inches, slender and appears to be happy and healthy. I had been feeding it two pinkies a week and then a week ago I fed it a fuzzy (I bought a milk that is a bit thicker and he easily eats fuzzies) and it ate the first fuzzy. I tried to feed it another fuzzy last wednesday and it had nothing to do with it. Saturday I fed it a small pinkie and it again ate with no problems. My question is should I continue to keep feeding it pinkies avery wednesday and Saturday or switch to fuzzies every ten days or so? Is there much of a nutritional difference? Cost is the same for pinks and fuzzies but both are less than a dollar each so price is not really a consideration.

Personally I had switched from mouse pinkies, to rat pinkies with mine. I had heard rats offer more nutritional value (not sure how true or how much) and my snake is sometimes picky with those, sometimes prefering a mouse pinky.

At a year old you should be feeding every 7-10 days really. Give him a week and then offer the fuzzy, one appropriate sized prey item once a week is much better than two twice a week. There should be a small lump after he eats, not too big but noticeable. The fuzzy should be about as big as the snake's girth, or slightly bigger.

A year old corn shouldn't be on fuzzies anymore. Should probably be on hoppers of weaned. I'd definitely start a bit more of an aggressive feeding schedule.

Joe,
Is that true even taking the male vs female sizes into account? I'm thinking a year old female might not have any problem with a hopper, but a year old male might. Just wondering, please elaborate on this.

I agree a yearling should be taking more then a fuzz by now.....if its on the small side give it 2 or maybe 3 at a setting and within a couple of months it will be downing hoppers. The male/female thing doesnt come into play at that early of an age for feeding.

If your snake is able to eat two or three of anything it's ready to go to the next size. A fuzzy averages 5-7 grams and a hopper is 9-10 grams, if you are feeding two fuzzies that is more than one hopper. Look at the girth of your snake, pick a prey item that is slightly larger and feed it one. When that becomes too small move up in size, don't double up.
