We have just got a baby albino corn snake he is about 7 weeks old. We got him a pinky today and he wont eat. How can we get it to eat? And is there anything else we can try to feed him besides the pinky? He is very small and the pinky looks almost as big as he is?

You should start a new thread if you have a question. He might not be hungry just give him alittle time.

I've split this off from the sticky at the top of the page. How long have your had your new corn? If you have got him recently, it can take some time for them to settle into their homes before they will feed. I'd love to see some pictures of your new baby!

i have a new baby corn too. She wouldnt eat at first because all the pinkies were too big. So i bought a newborn mouse pinkie, which she ate right away.

Do you know when was the last time he ate. and could you also describe the tank setup, like the temps, number of hides the type of substrate, and how big is the tank is.

We have one corn snake that is real picky about his food/feeding. The only way I've been able to get him to eat is to place his pinky in a brown paper bag, then place the snake in the bag and turn down the top of the paper bag a few times, and then turn off all the lights over the enclosure and in the room. THEN he'll eat his food within an hour!!!
We've had to feed him this way since last September '06 and ONLY until recently (May '06) will he feed while we watch him.
Good Luck!

the best way to heat up any f/t feeder is to heat up some water in the microwave and once it is heated you can put your pinky in a small bag and let it sit in the hot water for a couple min then feed. a good way to tell if your pinky is hot enough is check it with an infrared thermometer that you would use to check your temps in your enclosures.

I'm sorry but I totally disagree. If you put water in the microwave it is going to come out way too hot to heat a pinky up. You're going to effectively cook the outside of the pinky while waiting for the item to thaw.
All you need to do is fill a container with hot tap water and drop the pinky, or any f/t item in. Wait a few minutes depending on size, remove the f/t feeders, and squeeze their heads gently. The brain/head will be the last thing to 'warm' on a f/t feeder, so if that doesn't feel cold/cool you are fine to feed. You will notice that some snakes prefer a much warmer food item, and others don't really care.

calascorns i am sorry i didnt discribe the order i do everything in it will make more sense after i do. first off i rent and our hot water heater i think is about half dead so i cant get good hot water just from the tap. first thing i do is heat up some water for like a min/ min and a half then i let it set out while i get the snake out of their cage and put them in to the feeding enclosure then i get the f/t feeder bag it, and by that timea good five mins has elapsed so the water has had time to cool down enough that it wont cook the feeder. when it gets to a good temp then i heat up the feeder and feed. so i dont use extremely hot water straight from the micro. the first time i did it this way i did make the mistake of putting the feeder in right away and i did cook it so i learned from my mistakes.
