Ok to start i have fed pedro crickets supers and pheonix worms as staples. now crickets i never went back to because his new tank does not have a lid and is wood on the sides so the crix could climb out, supers were the easiest to care for and they live long and they are relitivaly cheap but they arent the best food because of their chitin, now pheonix worms, these have great nutrition but the darn things are so small and so exspensive that pedro eats them all (about 500) in just over a week.

so now i am moving on to something good for him easy to care for, something that he wont eat real fast and something not so pricey, right now the only thing i've found are silkworms, of course they are pricey, but i am guesing from how big they get only 5- 10 per meal and if i buy 1000 that is alot of meals, but from wat i have read they only live about 1 month before going into thier cocoon, major downside.

basicly if some one has an idea on a good feeder that cant climb wood very easily, doesnt make noise (oops for got to menshen my mom could not stand the crickets and when they found some on the ground dead they said no more), lasts a while, and is good for the lizard.

sorry if i sound picky, and choosy.

thanx,
nick

P.S.- roaches are even more of a no than crix.

Hmmmmmm...well i mix up my feeders between supers silkies pheoniix and cricketts i so agree regarding the crix as I have also found the DIE so fast in this heat and humidity so my guys get supers and silks more regular. Maybe if you mixed supers and silks and a couple pheonix it would be more cost efficent. Supers last ages...as for silks if you bought a bit at a time(costly i know) the die off rate isnt so big or cocoon stages. By buying so many at a time to save money, wouldnt really save if you had tonnes of die offs and cocoons. As well as buy crix smaller feed more but they dont create the noise disturbance that rives ppl CRAZE :x lol Hope it helps a bit and isnt to confusing.

p.s. Supers are actually a good feeder choice cheri posted a great article regarding feeders i will try to find the page or someone maybe could post it. The are not what once thought to be smile.gif

well i would do that but my parents gave a max bugget of $50 per order of food, past that and i have to use my own money, but about the supers back when i first used them his poop yoyu clearly see parts of the supers, but back then i was not clear about the 2 hours before handeling.anyways i might go ahead and find a sight that carries all three of those.

anyway how many silks does your beardie eat in one sitting?
Mecca
well because i mix them up he gets 6(my baby does daily) as well as the other feeders as far as my older guy he gets about 6 silks a week ont he days he is scheduled for live feed as well as his other feeders its like a salad of insects LOL esculsivly silks likely a dozen a day id think

one more q about silks- when they come out of their cocoon they are flightless so could i just give them to pedro when they are out of the cocoon?

and basicly i should get 1000 supers, and 200 silks, and give him 10 supers and 10 silks a meal. and then the silks would last for twenty meals, that sounds good and maybe i could give him more supers as a filler.

thanx mecca
im suprized you are the one giving me info on feeding, haha laugh.gif

LOL nick ive come quite a long way since my first thread and have done mad research and spoken to very reputable ppl:) As far as the silks go I am unsure ive never had many make it to cocconn stage as I have 4 herps that I feed daily lol but im sure theyd be fine in that particular stage.

That amount of feeders is perfect IMO and exactly how I break them up per feeding I usually do ...salads in am then an hour later mid morning they get 10 or feeders mixed up then mid afternoon they get another 10 or so live feeders Plus salad they have acess to through out the day. My younger guy eats more feeders obviously than my older with 12 worms plus crix biggrin.gif hes a pig though and HUGE biggrin.gif

alright once i get home from my base ball game i will probably order 200 of the silks, and 1000 of the supers.

where would be the best place to get silk and superworms, i know that at mulberry farms you can get them both but you cannot pick out the sizes, and i am guessing that they are all over 1".

Ive found taking care of crickets is super easy
Mecca
Im not too sure NICk as I get all my feeders locally through a great friend whom also happens to own a super reptile shop:) I am sure toehrs will assist in that department.

Styling..they are super easy given proper temps my house inst designed for mass quantities in the summer the ambiant over all temps are way hot or way cold and Huge die offs and lots of wasted money. I will resume crickets in the fall months.

ok i just recieved the shipment on friday, let me say that i orderd 200 silks (from www.silwormshop.com) or i guess they thought i orderd 75, and then they must have thought i only wanted 25 of them to live, pedro ate all of those in two meals, so i contacted them and apparenty for some stupid reason because on that day it was 90f, i did not cuallify fotr thier live delivory gaurauntee, so if any one on this site choses to buy silkworms, just let me warn you that i give them a 1 out of 5 (thier shipping was on schedsual LOL), but honestly they kinda suck,so i just placed an order from mulberry farms which i have ead nothing but good reviews about.

once againe www.silkwormshop.com gets a 1 out of 5, and if you get around to reading this and you still chose to buy from them, then prepare to waste money.

oh and mecca the price for the silks was $47.00, for supers i can get 1,000, for $29.00, stil can't beat your price though.
corey
you could hand feed crickets
Mecca
