am now thinking about buliding my own viv but am not sure wat woods are safe to use any ideas? also wat are the normal diamesions for a viv holding a adult corn? thanks
Ria
I'm not sure about woods, but I'd guess staying away from anything harmful to snakes (ie not recommended for bedding) would be a good start, so pine and cedar are out of the question.

As for size, I have heard many things about this like.... an enclosure 3/4 the length of your snake is ok & the length plus the width of your enlosure (eg. 36 + 12 inches) should be equal to the length of your snake & an enclosure which doesn't allow your snkae to stretch out fully is ok if you take them out for a couple of hours everyday for exercise.

Personally, I'd like my snake to be able to fully stretch out inside his own home, but mine is only a baby, so I guess I'm not much help! I'd guess 5ft for length would be ok, maybe 2ft for width? Of course, that is just my humble opinion and I'm sure others will have valuable adive to give smile.gif

Lol the discussion is on what wood to use to build a viv, not what substrate. Maybe try oak? I've no idea. Just do not use cedar or pine.
