GREAT! After all the percaution I took to ensure my little snake would not escape he did. And of course he waits until we get home from a 10 day vacation.

We got home sunday night and I saw my little Niblet hanging out on his branch. He looked as though he was about to shed or was in the middle of doing so. So, I left him alone.

All day yesterday I thought it was odd that I did not see him on his branch, but I figured he was just hiding due to the increased activity in the house and also that he was shedding.

I went to give him fresh water today and low and behold he was no where to be found. I am perplexed!!! I had (at least I thought) A very secure top. It is a vented top with several large textbooks on it to keep it in place. I thought for sure he wouldn't be able to push this up.

Needless to say he escaped.... I have searched high and low. Pulled out everything and looked in closets. No snake....

What else can I do?

both times John forgot to close a top properly, we found the snakes under the bed, under the radiator pipe. good luck

all 4 of them? lol quality!

Did you look through the aspen? If not look in the same room as the tank since they don't move too far. Anywhere dark, warm, and secure are good places. Not sure how the traps work or anything else. I do remember reading a guy found his escoped ball curled up in a used hoodie of his since it smelt like him and the snake deemed it to be a safe place. Good luck in your search.

biggrin.gif Lil 1 day, then Tango the next, he is now not allowed to open taratulas unsupervised, lol

any luck yet? fingers crossed for you

*shudders* i wouldnt "open tarantulas" if i was behind a glass screen with protruding rubber gloves! they freak me out

No luck yet! Searched the entire room the viv is in... sifted all of the aspen he was on. No Niblet.... I am just mortified. I know he will show up, it is just the waiting that is killing me.
lolitasogoth
If you can try putting flour or talcum powder around the walls of the room the viv's located in. It can give you an idea of where the snake's been and heading. That's what I tried when my snake decided to take a wander. I also put the heatmat [if you're using one] under a shoebox on the floor and a small tub of water inside. It's a nice, warm spot that your snake might feel like hiding in.

Good luck!

sad.gif am rooting for you, we were lucky in geting ours found within an hour of looking both times, but then had eagle-eyed 13 yr old helping. both were under the radiator pipes, which aren't boxed in and run around the walls just above the skirting. hoping for better news from you and Niblet soon

Either the heatmat under a shoe box or take a hide and put a light over it and put a mouse in there. Hopefully he will smell the food and come and eat and stay there since it is warm.

Have you found him yet? I hope so!
Please let us know.

Still No luck finding my little snake. My husband thinks that he has gotten outside. I sure hope not... I will never find him and he is not a normal corn so he would be easily found by a predator. E-gads I don't want that!!!

I have put a box with a towel and water in my closet, with a UTH underneath it. Next week I am going to try to put a live pinky in the box and hope that the smell of food draws him to the box. He should be extremely hungry. The last time he ate was Wednesday a week & 1/2 ago.....

I am just sick to my stomach!!!

cit the open end off a bottle and turn it in then tape it in place, put a live pinky in the bottle and if your snake finds it he will get into the bottle with no probs but will find it hard to get out, you can leave a sent trail to it too by draging the pinky across the floor up to the trap. leave it at the side of the room as corns dont like open spaces

good luck

My corn escaped once and I tried everything to find him, but none of the tricks worked. He was gone for nearly a week when I finally found him in my shoe in my closet. I'm guessing he had just gone in there because I once found my BP in there. I tore my room apart everyday looking for him. When you find him (because you will smile.gif ) I suggest giving to him some unflavored pedialyte. This helps with the dehydration he might be experiencing. My corn loved it.

I now secure my lid with these little clips. I sugges the same for you, they are very inexpensive and come in a variety of sizes.

Good luck and don't give up!
matt_k
How do you use those clips to secure your lid? What kind of enclosure are you using?
_Devastate_
if you have a screen lid or a sliding glass lid then you clip the edges down around the plastic skirting round the top of the viv

GAZ~ thanks for the advice on the bottle.... I didn't even think of that! I will have to make the bottle opening pretty small because he is a small snake. But I like the idea.

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions and thoughts of hope.... I am going to try the live pinky today and see how it goes. Should I set up several "traps" around the house? At this point he could be anywhere. But if I were him there is only one room I would go in (because noone ever goes in there).

Again you guys are great!

I've used the clips on my plastic enclosures and my glass ones. Devastate was right about the glass tanks, but for the plastic ones it's a simple clip around the lid and lip of the container to hold the sometimes flimsy parts down.

no need to make the opening small as once the snake goes in it cant get out at all

A ray of hope!!! I was getting some shoes out of my closet (in the room where the snake's viv is) and a purse fell over onto the floor... it has snake poo on it! So I at least know that the snake is somewhere in that closet or at least in the room and visits the closet.

Still no luck finding him yet..... but I have to get a live pinky and attempt to get him to eat. I will certainly post when he is found.... if he gets found.

HES BEEN FOUND biggrin.gif biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif
Just for you to know I am EXTREMELY Happy!!!

He was in my closet just as I suspected. I was cleaning it out again preparing to try the soda bottle/live pinky trick when I moved these bins I keep my shoes in and there he was underneath them!!! YEAH! He was quite an unhappy camper when I picked him up....

But I gave him a bath and fed him. He was so excited to see the pinky he didn't take time to kill it first. Thank goodness it was just a pinky!

Well, thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement and suggestions on how to find him. It appears he has been bathing and pooping in the water, I had down for him and that he still needs to complete his shed. So he is back in his warm home with plenty of water, hides and things to get the rest of his shed off.

Again big thanks to all of you.
