NOOO Thanks, I have no desire to have a snake that large in my home. I do think they are very nice to look and and be in awe of. But from a good safe distance.

So know one can handle a big snake hu? Wee I guess it would be hard o keep inside your house, but lets say you had a lot of land, and the time to build a big area for it to be in. Could you then, or want to have a 18 foot snake as a pet?

They are beautiful snakes but even if I had the room I wouldn't want one as a pet. At 8 feet you should have someone else there and I have no idea how many people it would take to safely handle an 18 foot snake. Really a snake that big should only be kept by extremely experienced people for the purpose of education about snakes.

that's an awesome picture....if i could build a sanctuary or something i'd love to keep one but as everyone else keeps
saying it would be dangerous and difficult keeping something that big!

Hey someone finaly has the guts to have one! You know if I had the proper training and had a big enough place, I would want one. I mean the fun I have with my little baby corn snake is never ending. What would happen if I had one 100X bigger, think of the fun factor!!!!

Burmese Python. They are one of the big four and can get over 20 feet and 200 pounds.

I thought no snake has been found over 17 feet? There is a American Science industry that will pay like $500,000 for anyone who can catch a 18 foot or bigger snake. This offer has been going since the 60's, when they only offerd $10,000.

I think you must be thinking of meters, not feet. Burmese pythons frequently grow to over 20 feet (about 6.4 meters) and Reticulated Pythons over 30 feet (about 10 meters)

Yeah your right, it is meters. I saw that the record is 33 feet by a Asiatic Reticulated Python (Python reticulatus). But the Anaconda holds the record for gerth. As big around as a grown man!

Yeah, but it was not confermed by anyone. If you read the hold artical, just the indo government claims it to be that big. And that was 2 years ago. So I think the old one still holds the record.

yea what devestate said the biggest burm i have heard of was 25 feet....the biggest snake was a reticulated python that was 32 1/2 feet.....but burms are some of the most docile snakes out there in my opinion much different than a anaconda.....

they still scare me :S i just cant even begin to imagine the mechanics of how one would handle one of those things... and i dont even dare think about the size of burm turds
herpfreak
Jan 5 2006, 12:25 PM
basically with a burm throw it over your shoulder and have some one help you carry it to whereever you need to.....oh and the turds......think bull mastiff.....

Jan 5 2006, 12:35 PM
*shudders* but what do you DO with it after you 'carried it to wherever you need to' ?

Jan 5 2006, 09:24 PM
Yes there are a lot of snakes bigger than 17ft. If that was true I would get a burm just to win that prize. You could get one heck of a herp room with that lol.

I dont think you will really need to move it around to much. I mean just build a nice big cage and feed it, give it water, and make sure it is not sick. Now if it needs to see a vet, thats when you get a bunch of your friends over to help move it. I really dont think it would be that hard after you got use to taking care of one.

Very True, but the whole thing would be fascinating! I mean can you imagine how fun it would be to watch that thing eat every month! Or just watching it day to day!
