Ok guys i am about ready to give up on Locutus she tolerates my hand in her viv but everytime ib try to hold her she attempts to bite me. I am really fed up now and ready to swap her for a couple of rankins instead. I keep her in a 36x18x18 on aspen her temps are fine and she is eating ok. its just that she wont tolerate being held i have even tried building up to it as well as just reaching in and handling her the result is always the same.

Have you tried putting a shirt that smells like you in the viv with Loctus? I've heard that might work. How old was she again? I can't remember. If you want to get rid of her that bad, I'd buy her off you if you live somewhere close to me. It sounds like you're doing everything right, maybe it's just her temperment.

Thanks Matt i'll try that

Maybe you should change his name, the borg are notorious for being aggressive biggrin.gif

Some snakes just take more time then others,,Both my corns were very mellow from the start and have never bitten me..But I did have a carpet python that never stopped biting me, he was awful, I gave him away  I guess this isnt much help but give it a little while longer

does it only strike when you reach for it, or will it strike after you get it out?? what does "attempts to bite me" mean exactally? when i'm handling my bigger boas, as soon as i toutch them there heads move from wherever they are to about 3 inches from my hand. since i've had them for a while, i know there just making sure its me but anyone that sees this gets freaked out.

if i were you, i would just get the snake out of the cage with a hook and see how it likes being handled. even if you do get bit, how much pain could a corn snake enflict?

That egg tooth hurts!!!! Question: Are you feeding him in his cage? Make sure you feed him outside of the cage as he will start to relate your hand to food, and be more apt to strike at it when it enters the tank. Oh and Borg's don't bite, they assimilate.

i have a jungle corn called forest grumps for obvious reasons, that will allow me to do any maintenance in her enclosure with out biting but if you go to get her out she instantly starts striking and biting, and i tried every trick in the book. shes now approaching 3 years old and ive given up trying to tame her, just hope she dosnt get protective over her eggs when/if she breeds lol

Can you try using a hook..Some snakes just hate being pulled out of their tanks and once they are out are fine...Just a thought

another consideration would be the environment outside the enclosure, ie proximity to traffic caused vibrations, noise etc also some snakes get tetchy around shedding time????

When I first got my corn she was very skittish, never tried to bite me, but would run away, burrow anything. Brother ended up just picking her up, holding her firmly in his hands and she is now calm as ever. I have also heard the shirt/sock/glove thing will work.

Keep trying!

it didnt in my case
