ok my gecko shed a few days ago... and ive noticed he has a little tiny bit of unshed skin where his mouth closes.... it doesnt wrap around his head or anything... just a little bit at his mouth... i picked at it a little bit... didnt move and just felt hard...

i was wondering if i should worry.... its not wrapped around anything just sticking there...

Just make sure you've got a good humid hide in there in the warm end, and that should do the trick. There's some details on how to make one in the Leopard Gecko section of the knowledgebase.

If you've got a moist hide in there, just try some warm water with a Q-Tip to soften it and loosen it a lil.

hmm... if he's shed, and the lump is getting bigger, I'd get down to a vet's.

Check Herp Vet Connection to see if there are any recommended reptile vets in your area.

no recomended vets in my area... the closest appears to be 3 to 4 hour drive away... and then back...

it doesnt look red or infected or anything... just a clump of skin on his lip.... is there a way to keep his mouth open long enough for me to rub at it with a qtip ...

*sigh* hes always been really good shedder even without a humid hide(didnt know to have one when i first got him) and then the past couple sheds hes had trouble getting it off his toes and now the thing with his lip... i really dont know whats caused theses shedding problems...

Hmm... about the only way would be by using another q-tip. One to hold his mouth open (like a bar between his lips), then use the other to rub.

yah i couldnt get the qtip stick in his mouth several different times... couldnt ever get it... he just wouldnt open his mouth....

another thing ive noticed is hes barely eating at all... but he is still pooping occasionally... just an itty bit bit of black stuff and an about normal sized bit of white... ive been assuming it was just cuz of winter.... but im starting to worry... his tale is about as big around as his neck at its biggest point... it used to be noticebly bigger...

if he was getting impacted he wouldnt be able to poop at all right?... and that still doesnt explain the shedding... unless the 2 things could be related...

i know a guy who has 20+ leos and some other herps that lives in my town... im gonna give him an email... see if he knows any good herp vets here...

well my friend gave me the number of the place he would always go to... and i was gonna call them today... but my gecko seemed much more normal... he was out watching me do my homework like he used to... and so i took him out and he was being extra calm letting me work at that skin on his lip... and he would open his mouth for a couple seconds at a time... and i was able to get at it really good... and it came off... and went in his mouth... so i assume he swallowed it... but the skin is gone... his lip is still raised a little and its all pink in that spot... so i will definently keep an eye on that... and hopefully he will start eating like normal...
