Any opinions?
My beardie's light burnt out so I needed something pretty much right away and I was going to have to replace the UVB anyways so I bought one of these.
The temp in the basking spot is 40 degrees celcius (around 100F)
I find my beardie isn't basking right in the "sweet zone" but just a little off where the temp is around 36 degrees celcius.
Do I need to get the calcium without the D3 or will it be okay with this light?
Thanks ahead of time for any opinions!
Smile Mir

the bulb hasn't really been fully tested....if you going with a MVB rather get the T-rex one if you want it right away otherwise get the MegaRay. I would only get this bulb as an absolute last resort if they had nothing else (ie: after getting a powersun) bear in mind it is made by the same lot who made the reptiglo 10 and the compacts (so obviously by a company that cares more about having a product in that range that they can sell rather than looking out for the reptile) rather go with companies that produce exclusively MVB's.....MegaRay or T-rex.....thats my 2 cents worth (i would never put my beardie under a bulb thats not been fully tested...especially a mvb)

Mega ray and T rex are only available on the net and I needed something right away. I couldn't wait 2 to 4 weeks for something to show up. Has anyone on the board here tested this one? I'd be interested in your findings. Finding anything proper for a beardie here almost seems impossible! UGH!

ok...i stand corrected......a friend has done a test on this bulb and its fine so long as it is a minimum of 14 inches away from your animal.....i think the problem with this bulb is similar to the powersun in that it decays very fast and you lose the benefit of having a mvb in the first place...i will get back to you on this....and the test results as soon as i can...its very early in the mornign here and am very tired.......sorry i freaked a bit therer (I hear exo-terra think bad thoughts), but one thing i am sure of...make sure you have the minimum of 14 inches between dragon and bulb

Thanks. I actually took out a tape measure and measured it as I wanted to be sure it would be okay. Thanks!

ok...i dont know if you understand the technical terminology when testing bulbs but here goes....im going to compare it to a t-rex sb100w so that even if you dont you can get a pretty good idea. the bulbs are compared at the optimal minimum distance (12 iches for T-rex and 14 for Solarglo)
Trex produces: initially about 294 uW/cm2 of uvb and after about 283 hours about 250 uW/cm2
the Solar glo produces: Initially 157 uW/cm2 and then after 105 hours burn in has 120uW/cm2

so you can see thaey not quite in the same league and the t-rex and MegaRays would last a lot longer...so if i was you i would order the t-rex or MegaRay and then use this bulb as a backup for emergencies like unexpected burnouts but remember to change the basking distance if you do that.....hope this helps Smile

sorry mistake under the Trex reading....it goes from 294uW/cm2 of uvb to 283 uW/cm2 after 105 hours Smile

Wow! That's a huge difference! Thanks! I guess this one will do until I get my other bulb!

No...i would not go with the zoomed powersun...if you gonna get zoomed UV then get a tube and get the reptisun.....the powersun will produce good UV for about 3 months then its pretty useless......in order of what i would recommend if you getting a MVB:
1) MegaRay (they are the best)
2) T-Rex (made by smae people as MegaRay...just not a specific about the quality of the bulb)
3) Exo-terra bulb as a back up if you can't find 1 or 2
if i couldn't find either of the above 3 then i would simply go with the reptisun 10 as you will get better value for maney than any of the other MVB's and its and in all honesty its probably bettter.

I believe someone already answered that for you when you asked it in this thread.
