I wanted to know exactly how much a baby beardie is supposed to eat? I have heard conflicting stories on this subject. Or is it up to the beardie?

Yes, it's up to the beardie. Give him veggies first thing in the morning, then 3 times a day allow him to eat as many crix (smaller than the space between his eyes)as he wants in a 10-15 minute period. Depending on his appetite and rate of growth, he will decide how many that is. This range has been known to go anywhere between 20-100 crickets a day.

Mine won't hardly seem to eat any veggies at all. I have been giving him a variety of veggies in the morning and all he seems to want is crickets. He ate about 2 doz yesterday and has already had about 15 today. How important are veggies at this point? He is about 3 months old.

Babies are primarily insect eaters but they do nibble on salad when you don't notice. And they tend to nibble on greens more. Kephy's schedule of food is sound.

It's normal right now for him to eat more insects than veggies, but it is important at this time to work on getting him to eat them better. Think of him like a littke kid, the earlier you get them to start liking their veggies, the more likely they will eat healthy later in life. Some dragons if left too long to eat what they want won't take veggies as readily once they are adults.
So it's good that you are working on it now. Keep giving veggies in the morning and don't give him any crickets until noon. Try wiggling the greens in front of his nose to get his attention, but don't get him spoiled on hand feeding, just enough to get him to realize that veggies are food too. That way in the mornings when he's hungry and that's all that is available, he will be more likely to eat some to tide himself over. -------------------- -Mandee
